Most local Chamber of Commerce groups will allow you to host your own event, this is a great opportunity to educate potential customers about your products or services. Hosting an event is more work than just booking a restaurant especially if you want it to be a success. Here are some tips on how to host your own chamber event and make it a roaring success.
Find the Right Location
Some local Chamber of Commerce have their own venues, they have meeting rooms within their offices in which case you only need bring coffee and snacks. If that is not an option you can book a private room in a restaurant or conference room in a hotel where people can mingle easily.
Who Do You Want to Invite
Use invitations strategically, you don’t have to invite every single member of the Chamber, in fact you probably shouldn’t. Invite 10 of your dream clients and other people in your network who could benefit from the event. Make sure that you put people in the same room that can benefit from meeting each other. A successful event isn’t all about you. You can even encourage your invitees to bring a guest they think would benefit from the event.
Have the Event Catered
People are more inclined to come if you sweeten the deal, literally and figuratively. Offer up a lunch or dinner for your guests. If you are hosting a more casual event then just make sure you bring some finger food and drinks. Have a budget in mind this doesn’t have to be overly expensive, you can simply bring an array of fruit and cheeses along with coffee and tea.
Always Make Introductions
Your attendees are coming in order to make connections; your job is to facilitate that. You are the host and you know who is coming to the event, introduce the new people. Here are some ice breakers that you can use to help you along.
You can take this first event and make it a success, if all goes well then you can take that buzz and turn it into a regular event. Try it once a month or even once a quarter. Continuing to host the event in the future allows these contacts to keep in touch not only with you but with each other. You have an unique opportunity and the chamber has a complete list of potential connections that are available to you.
